The current policy for admission to primary schools adopted by Essex Education Authority is for children to start full time attendance in an infant department at the beginning of the term in which they become five years old.

Consultation on Admissions 2027-2028
In accordance with the Schools Admissions Code, the Governing Body of St. Francis Catholic Primary School, Maldon, wishes to consult with stakeholders and the wider community on their proposals to modify their admission arrangements. It is proposed that these arrangements first apply to applications for admission to Reception in September 2027 and to all other applications received during the 2027-2028 year.
As determined by the Schools Admissions Code, this consultation is for parents / carers of children aged 2 – 18, other persons in the area who have an interest in the proposed arrangements, all other admissions authorities within the local area, the local authority and the Diocese of Brentwood.
The statutory six week consultation period will run from 11th November 2025 – 23rd December 2025. A copy of the consultation can be found on the school website www.stfrancismaldon.co
Comments on the proposal to revise the Admissions Criteria are invited and will be considered and used by the Governing Body to inform their final decision on whether to implement the proposed revisions.Formal notification of the Governing Body's decision and a copy of the Admissions criteria will be placed on the school's website by the end of February 2026.

Mid Year Applications
Mid-year applications (sometimes called in-year applications) are any application for a school place made to a year group, apart from September admissions to Reception.
Parents wishing to make a mid-year application must apply directly to the school, using the mid-year application form below:
Where there are places available but more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria, as set out in our admission policy, will be applied.
If there are no places available, the child will be offered a place on our waiting list.
Please note: if a mid-year application is received during a school holiday period, we will respond as soon as possible when the school reopens.
