Learning Support Assistant - Autism Support
Overview
Fixed Term Contract - 1 Year September 2026-August 2027.
28.75 hours per week, Term Time only
Monday to Friday, 8.45am until 3.00pm (includes Midday duties).
We are seeking a caring, patient and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to provide personalised support for a pupil with autism.
The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, family and external professionals to support the pupil’s communication, emotional wellbeing, independence and engagement in school life.
We are looking for someone who understands that every child learns differently and that progress can take many forms. For this pupil, success may initially be seen through increased engagement, communication, emotional regulation, confidence, relationships and independence, as well as academic learning.
Experience of supporting children with autism or other additional needs would be an advantage; however, we welcome applications from candidates who have a genuine interest in supporting children with SEND and who are willing to develop their knowledge and skills through training and support.
Visits to the school are encouraged. If you are interested, please contact the school office on 01621 856698 or via email to admin@stfrancismaldon.co.uk and the Headteacher will arrange a mutually convenient time for a meeting.
It is important the school application form is completed in full, particularly the section requesting references and elsewhere when consent is required. Incomplete application forms will not be processed.
Due to the level of applications received, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted once the advert is closed.

The successful candidate will:
- Believe in the potential of every child.
- Be patient, calm and nurturing.
- Enjoy building positive relationships with children.
- Understand that some children need time, consistency and support to feel safe and ready to learn.
- Be able to recognise and celebrate small steps of progress and achievement.
