History - Maya Chocolate Making - March 2025

This term, Year 6  embarked on an exciting journey back in time to learn about the Maya civilization and two of their most important crops: chocolate and maize. As part of their studies, they not only gained a deeper understanding of the significance of these foods in Maya culture but also got hands-on with an activity that brought their learning to life — making and tasting traditional Maya-style hot chocolate!

The children were amazed to find that the hot chocolate they made was quite different from the sweetened version we are familiar with today. The bitter, spicy flavor of the traditional drink gave them a real sense of the historical and cultural significance of chocolate in Maya society.

 R.E. - Reflecting on Jesus' Commandments - March 2025

Our Year 6 class have been reflecting on one of the most important lessons from the teachings of Jesus: His commandment to "Love one another" and the call for unity within our community.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

This powerful teaching has inspired the children to reflect on the importance of love and kindness in their everyday lives. They discussed how this love extends beyond family and friends, challenging them to think about how they can show love to everyone, including those who may be different from themselves.

The children even made origami tulips and distributed them to friends, family and the wider community – with a little message to let the person know they were appreciated.
